Based on role w/ the same name from Dupery.
Mathematician
Team: Good
Once per game, at night, learn the sum of all Evil players’ position in the list.
Example:
#1, #5, and #7 is Evil. Mathematician uses ability and learns ‘13’.
Late in the game, evil player #12 is voted out, leaving #3 and #8. Mathematician uses ability and learns ‘11’.
Wouldn’t it be better to just Automatically use the ability? Dep on conclusion you can clear large sums of players or narrow it down very easily.
So we know there are three evils totaling to 23 (this is a 14 player game) you used ability n1. We know there can’t be multiple of the same numbers. There are 21 dif combinations. Many of which can be crossed out easily dep on claims.
Looking at the number 13 there’s only 7 possible combinations.
This is the assumption that a) flicker players are smart b) they have a table with all the possible combinations of numbers with them at all times and c) the mathematician is telling the truth.
Newer players might find it easier to use less brainpower and wait for people to be voted out before they use because they have little way of knowing if whoever voted out is evil or not. Hopefully this can also encourage people to start lying in their journals more.
I think encouraging people to lie in their journals more. Just makes this role more encouraged to use n1 tbh. I think it should just be a “you start knowing” role.

I’d also note for say a number like 23 again. We know it can’t be Both 1 and 2 because we know there is know player 20. This goes for another 12 colbinations where we know if it’s one we completely clear another player.
I have no issues with making it a start knowing role, I just want to give it and the players more flexibility to play it how they like. Again, like you said, I hope it will also encourage players to lie about being the mathematician if its info is so powerful.
